Wading Bird | Sentient | Blackbird |
Becca Harris
When designing this piece I was influenced by Tiffany glasswork and the artist Gustav Klimt’s drawing of the ‘Tree of life’, especially the sinuous lines.I have also been inspired by the owl sculptures of Northern Europe, which were created during the Art Nouveau period, and Greek mythology. (47cm x 56cm)
‘Blackbird’ I have taken Klimt’s blackbird from his ‘Tree of Life’ and made him my main subject. (25cm diameter)

Entwined Peacocks:
Peacocks, their feathers and the natural iridescence that they hold captivated many Art Nouveau designers. The image symbolised beauty, self confidence and immortality and was the epitome of the period. By combining undulating, curvy, sinuous, whiplash lines and authentic colour I hope to have captured the essence of the Art Nouveau style and period. I've created this 615mm x 405mm piece using Vitreous Glass Tiles.
Light Of The Dragonfly:
I've always loved the designs of the stained glass Tiffany Lamps. The "Dragonfly" lamp was one of the studios finest and most successful works as they were seen as symbols of hope and joy. This 610mm square piece has been inspired by such designs and hopefully shows my adherence to Tiffany's Art Nouveau aesthetics of simple form, harmonious colours and the beauties of commonplace nature. This piece is made using Vitreous Glass tiles and offset with cabochon glass pieces which were commonly seen in Tiffany Lamps.

Green Bird
Hand made polymer clay tiles with faux metal finish, stained and vitreous glass, slumped glass, micro tiles, gold smalti and swarovski crystals
This mosaic was inspired by some metal embossed Art nouveau tiles that I saw as a teenager. Individually they were beautiful and quite simple but when put together the confident combination created a sense of opulence and a deceptively complex pattern. I have hand made the tiles in this mosaic using polymer clay and then created a ‘faux metal’ finish to re-create the richness of the pattern and material.
Finches
Stained glass, vitreous glass, gold smalti, millefiori, slumped glass, cinca, tumbled glass, various decorative edging tiles and hand made polymer tiles .
I have made this mosaic as an homage to the glazed embossed tiles of the Art Nouveau era. Many of these tiles show stylized and decorative animals held in a formal geometric shape.I have used repeated circles throughout the piece and the high sheen of the glass is offset by the ceramic border of the circle and the sea glass that has been made by putting clear stained glass in a rock tumbler to give it a gentle frosted appearance
