Furie of the sea
|
Sylvia Fosiel
I took inspiration from a NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope picture of
NGC 3603, a giant galactic nebula captured on June 1st, 1999.
The name « NGC 3603 » gives the addition number of this stars area
to the New General Catalogue (NGC).
Discovered in 1834 by John F.W. Herschel, NGC 3603 is located in
the Carina Constellation at approx. 20 000 light-years. Due to the large number of stars in NGC 3603 and the fact that each is at a different life phase, entire life cycle of stars is representating here.
The majectic beauty of this landscape decides me to create a mosaic
based on.
Furie of the sea
My inspiration to create this piece is a Hubble Space Telescope view showing as the
fury of a raging sea, a small region within M17, a hotbed of star formation.
M17, also known as the Omega or Swan Nebula, is located about 5500 light-years
(Constellation Sagittarius.)
I found these shapes and colors so marvelous that I decide to create with our magical
mosaic materials

Pigs do Fly |
Woody Fox
I work mainly as a children’s illustrator and so it felt appropriate to do something humorous.
Not being a Christian, I had a bit of a problem with the word ‘Heaven’ and so that’s when the flying pig of joy came in!
I hope it makes you smile.

Heaven is to me - Sold |
Katy Gilbrath
For ‘Heaven’s Above’, I wanted to incorporate all the things that I would like to exist in my ideal world so ice-cream, cake, wine, children and animals and, being an enthusiastic gardener, flowers. I have been true to myself and my eco-credentials by incorporating many recycled materials, including those representing me and my home town of Crieff, Perthshire (Crieff Pottery whisky jugs; remnants from a local fused glass artist, Gordon’s & Bombay Gin bottle glass for example). The surface use for this mosaic originates from discarded kitchen units. Recycled materials stimulate many of my ideas in other mosaic pieces that I have done, and as a consequence my greenhouse is now filled with china, glass and decorative ceramic ornaments rather than plants!

Heaven from a Snails Perspective | Star Ascending |
Karen Gill
'New to mosaicing and loving it, I particularly find myself intrigued by and exploring edges, texture and dynamic movement. I've always had a thing about snails and wondered what Heaven might be like above them ...there's one ascending. I wondered what it might remotely feel like when a star is born. I enjoy using a jig-saw.
