Catching a Star to Heaven
By the light of the Moon - Sold

Catching a Star to Heaven
75cm x 47 cm
This mosaic was inspired by my 3? year old daughter’s interpretation of how our black cats would reach heaven when they sadly passed away, and is also a tribute to these beloved pets. Wide ranges of materials have been used in this piece to create contrasting textures from gold smalti to recycled dinner plates. I wanted to achieve a sense of movement with the flow of the tesserae around the cats while creating a decorative and fun piece.

By The Light of the Moon
50 x 40cm
This mosaic was inspired by moonlight shining down on creation to make a magical atmosphere where an exotic bird roosts and jewelled flowers blossom. The raised parts have been created to give a sense of focus and depth. Materials include unglazed ceramic and glass tiles, milliflori and glass nuggets.

Save the Heaven's Above

I like Your theme for this exhibition.
The artists must think deeply about these ideas.

The "Heavens Above" us are really amazing and beautiful,
But something happened in my mosaic.
The shape of it is in some way irregular, damaged.
The sky spiral is trying to go out of its mathematical definite pattern.
There are to many falling stars and the ozone hole is a real danger.
We must save the "Heavens Above"
NOW!
hroughout history artists have looked up into the night sky and tried to interpret the complexity of colour and pattern that they see.

In the darkness of your journey, in the absence of your star, only hope and faith is what makes you stretch and reach for it still......

Carolyn King

This piece was created to add another dimension to a children’s story.

(Basically, I draw!) but would describe myself as a 2 and 3D illustrator who uses a variety of media with a serious sense of fun that has recently begun to combine images from children’s stories with mosaic sculpture.

Some of my work has an educational slant and as mosaic fulfils the need to work in colour, light and form simultaneously it creates both a visual and tactile experience for the viewer (and listener).

All these qualities encourage even the most reticent to interact and see the possibilities of this very varied art form.
